How to Play Hockey on Slick Tiles

Hockey players around the world have learned to appreciate all of the perks that slick tiles have to offer. For starters, dryland hockey tiles are easy to install and set up in just about any place that there is a little room and a flat surface. Simple installation equals a nice place to practice hockey or even play games without even having to leave the home. Playing hockey on slick tiles is not the same as playing on ice, but is still an effective and challenging way to enjoy the world’s finest sport.

Dryland Hockey Flooring

Just because it has the name dryland, don’t let it fool you. Slick tiles that are high quality can provide an ice-like experience that you might not expect. Although you can’t ice skate on slick tiles, you can shoot the pucks and can dangle a regulation hockey puck without harming your hockey stick. Slick tiles are a great alternative to synthetic ice or real ice and can be easily transformed into a full-fledged hockey rink.

Choosing Your Spot

If you have not already installed your dryland hockey flooring, it is a good idea to evaluate the area that you would like to install your tiles on. Make sure that it is a hard, flat surface that is level. It doesn’t matter if you want to install your tiles indoors or outdoors because they can handle whichever you choose, but what really matters is that the foundation that you put them on is flat, level, and can handle the abuse of hockey practice and games.

If you want to install your tiles on the carpet or on the lawn it is best if you lay down a plywood subfloor so that you can reinforce the strength of the tiles.

Playing on Slick Tile Flooring

Obviously, you can’t play hockey in ice skates when you are on slick tile flooring. You might as well just try to ice skate on your kitchen floor. You can, however, play in rollerblades, or regular tennis shoes. When you play in roller blades you will be able to glide across the surface and move around fast as a rocket, so keep in mind there may be less resistance when you skate on there than there would be on concrete or other surfaces.

As we mentioned above, you can play on slick tiles with regulation hockey pucks. They slide across the surface just as they would if they were on ice. The plus side to tiles is that you can also practice and play with hockey balls. You are not required to use pucks to play with or practice with so it leaves you much room for variations for training options and techniques.

Conclusion

At the end of the day, you can play hockey on slick tiles the same way you can on an ice rink. Although no ice skating, the game is the same. Hard work and determination bring hefty results, whether you play on ice, or on a concrete slab, it is still playing the game.
