National Football League (NFL) Plans for 2020-2021 Season Due to COVID Rules

COVID 19 has massively impacted NFL plans and programs. As of Jul 22, The NFL Players’ Association (NFLPA) had said that 95 people related to the NFL were tested and found positive for COVID-19. Among 95 people, 59 were NFL players, and the rests of them are staff members.

One of the reasons why the NFL has been successful for six decades is that there has been a competitive balance. According to Roger Goodell, in the NFL, all 32 teams must have the same shot at success. Pete Rozelle also said that if all groups shared revenue, a couple in Green Bay, Wisconsin, could compete evenly each year with a squad from New York or Los Angeles. But there burst NFF issue amid COVID-19, questioning what would happen when competitive balance among the teams threatened to be thrown out of whack.

NFL has said that 67 players withdrew from the 2020 season because of Coronavirus on Aug 6. It was announced that Players leaving voluntarily would get a $150,000 salary in advance. And players with medical conditions that could put them at higher risk would get a $350,000 stipend. The deadline to opt-out of the season was Tuesday (Aug 4). Still, the players diagnosed with a high-risk condition or if a family member is hospitalized or dies because of coronavirus can also depart later.

On Aug 4, the NFL announced to fine players up to $50,000 if the players broke coronavirus rules. Also, it was mentioned that if players failed to wear a mask, properly maintaining social distance, and not wearing their Kinexon device, they would be fined up to $14,650.

Recently, Michael McCarthy of Front Office Sports announced that the NFL would not hold live national anthem performances in 2020 due to COVID-19. It means that the league can also reduce the presence of military and police honor guards.

Since Jul 22, NFL fans were permitted to attend NFL games in 2020, but they need to wear masks amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The Atlanta Falcons has also announced that they’ll allow between 10,000-20,000 fans into Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

On Jul 30, 2020, the Cowboys canceled season tickets for 2020 amid the COVID-19 pandemic, but it was confirmed that the program would be set to resume in 2021 for NFL games. Besides, Arizona Cardinals also voided season tickets for the upcoming season amid the COVID-19 outbreak.

COVID pandemic has ruined the entertainment and excitement for the upcoming NPF season in 2020. But there is something that can compensate for the bad experience of the pandemic in the NFL games.
