Daniel Snyder Is More Than Just the Washington Football Team’s Owner

Football fans may know Daniel Snyder as the owner of the Washington Football Team. However, since acquiring the franchise in 1999, he has also spent a significant amount of time and resources helping to make life better for those in the Washington D.C. community. Let’s take a closer look at the various ways that Snyder has established himself as a philanthropist over the past two decades.

Daniel Snyder Jumped into Action to Help Those Impacted by COVID-19

In March 2020, millions of Americans were impacted by lockdowns, job losses and the constant fear that they would be the next to get sick. In response, Snyder donated $100,000 to a local food bank to alleviate the impact that those issues would have on the community. He also offered FedExField as a mass COVID-19 testing site to help slow the spread of the virus.

Raising Awareness About Racial Inequality

Throughout the summer of 2020, protests erupted in multiple cities throughout the country, demanding change in the aftermath of George Floyd’s murder. In an effort to help calm tensions, Snyder donated $250,000 to programs that worked to ensure that all people were treated fairly regardless of their race.

Millions in Aid Sent to Countries Devastated by Natural Disasters

In 2016, a hurricane hit the island of Haiti, and Dan Snyder responded by having two players personally deliver aid supplies to the nation’s leader. A decade earlier, he had sent relief aid after a tsunami hit the coasts of Thailand and Indonesia.

Providing Help for Americans In Need

In 2005, Hurricane Katrina caused extensive damage throughout the state of Louisiana. Daniel Snyder was among the first to provide money, food and other resources to those who needed it.

Through the Washington Charitable Foundation, Snyder has helped individuals who have spent years of their lives serving in the United States military. For instance, in 2016, it partnered with the Gary Sinise Foundation to build a smart home for a veteran who had been paralyzed while serving overseas.

The Washington Football Team Has Benefited from Snyder’s Leadership

Daniel Snyder has invested $100 million into FedExField during his time as the Washington Football Team owner. The money has helped to improve traffic patterns around the stadium, strengthen the wireless network in parking lots and make it easier to get around the various concourses. Money has also been spent to add new luxury boxes inside of FedExField, which has helped to generate the revenue needed to defray the cost of maintaining the Washington Football Team’s home field.

Snyder has also invested significant capital to upgrade the team’s practice facilities. The players now enjoy modern practice fields, larger meeting rooms and better food in the cafeteria. There are also dedicated media gathering areas at Inova Sports Performance Center to ensure that they have greater access to players and coaches.

In 2013, the team moved its summer training camp practices to Richmond in an effort to broaden the team’s appeal in the state of Virginia. During the inaugural training camp, roughly 165,000 people showed up to watch the team practice. Among those in attendance were 5,000 children who were invited as part of the Play 60 program.

Daniel Snyder: A History of Successful Businesses

In 1985, he started Snyder Communications, that would quickly find itself listed on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE). In 2000, Snyder Communications Inc. would be sold to a company called Havas for more than $2 billion. At the time of the sale, the firm had employees working in offices in multiple countries throughout the world. Furthermore, its client base featured 200 companies that were included on the Fortune 500 list.

Since becoming owner of the Washington Football Team, the franchise’s value has tripled to roughly $2.5 billion. In addition to the team, Snyder owns companies such as inVentiv Health and Red Zebra Broadcasting. He also has a large portfolio of private companies that operate throughout the United States.
